The Dirty Pile

Today I vow to tackle the mountain of laundry that grew while I was busy doing all the other stuff I do all week. I have to say that the amount of laundry this family produces seems quite disproportionate to the number of people and the size of our (shortish) bodies. I suspect that my children are actually throwing clean clothes back in the basket, rather than getting up off their lazy summer bums and putting them in their drawers. (My husband may be doing this too, it's hard to tell without sniffing everything – and that takes too much time, plus it's gross.) Either that or the neighbors are sneaking through the window each night and adding their dirties to our pile. Regardless, if I don't tackle this chore today someone is going to be walking around stark naked, because everyone's almost out of undies.

I've been on a purging mission lately (meaning the last five years) to try to cut down on the number of clothes in my closet. Truthfully, there are quite a few things that I just don't wear. Mostly they're things I bought when I saw someone else wearing them and thought I should try that particular look too, but really they weren't my style. I've come to realize that I'm just not really the stylin' type and I really love comfy clothes the best . . . oh, and jeans. I love jeans. And cotton. Slicky material feels weird.

Well, now that you are bored out of your minds after hearing about my laundry I will send you off into your day. I hope your day is filled with joy and fun and adventure. If you think of it, have a little extra fun for me since I'll be waist deep in stinky clothes for the large part of my Friday.

  1. Today was laundry day here too-I feel the same way and I only do laundry for 2 people! I rarely wash my jeans, and I wear things multiple times before washing-who cares when you're just around the house right? But still it is always there staring you in the face! I always manage to leave a load in the dryer, last month I re-washed a load of towells 3 times because I kept forgetting to put them in the dryer and they would get stinky! Or I will get them folded and never put away-we just use the laundry basket as a dresser-haha
I have "Amelie" on my NetFlix queue-I've never seen it!

    1. I do that re-wash thing too! And we definitely use the baskets as a dresser a lot. I used to have a little sofa in our bedroom that became the place to pile all the clean clothes. I moved it to try to stop the non-folding habit, but now I just use our bed! Then 11 p.m. rolls around and we throw it all on the floor or back in a basket so we can sleep.

So glad you're going to watch Amelie - it is French, so there are subtitles. But once you get started, you don't mind :) Hope you like it. I'll be curious to hear.

      Have a good weekend!

  2. Number one rule for doing laundry at our house: NEVER give laundry the sniff test. When in doubt of clothes cleanliness, wash it...again...and again...and...

  3. My life is dominated by laundry - all last week I was tormented by a post-holiday ironing pile so huge that I just couldn't bring myself to start it, because I knew it would never end. I took me three days, during which time new items were added. I'm still scarred by the whole experience.

    1. I'm sorry to hear of your laundry trauma. I decided many years ago that I don't believe in ironing. I do my best to avoid it at all costs.
