One year

Tomorrow is my big blog anniversary. One whole year of adventures in blogland. It's been a great year. Blogging has changed a lot about how I look at the world. I've discovered that I really enjoy photography. I've found that there are lots of people out there who love the exact things I do. I've made new friends from all around the globe. Blogging has helped me appreciate all the tiny details in life, the beauty in the mundane tasks, the hope in a tiny bud, the humor entwined with midlife frustrations. I'm grateful for this new perspective and I look forward to tapping away at the keyboard and posting my way through this next year too.

Things are slowly waking up here in Montana. Oh. So. Slowly. It takes a long time for winter to pack up and leave. There's a lot of deep thawing involved. But there are daffodils poking through the dirt and most days it's warm enough to put the bunnies out in the garden area and let them explore and roll in the grass. Opal put on too many pounds this winter and needs to do some serious hopping. She's sporting a triple chin.

I put a few bird feeders outside the windows by my desk and it's been fun watching the birds come and go. Mostly chickadees and nuthatches so far. Oh, and a squirrel I call Hazel who continually gets more and more brave. She spends half the day trying to tiptoe past the dogs before they spy her and run her back into the creek bed. I'm a little worried one of them will actually snag her — that wouldn't be pretty.

Despite the warmer days I bought myself a new winter toy — an electric wood stove. I'd been eyeing them all winter but never pulled the trigger. Then I happened to be in Lowe's the other day, saw them on clearance, and decided to go for it. We set it up in the little TV room off the kitchen and I love it so much. I was worried it would feel cheesy, fake flames and all, but it's wonderful. It even has an optional heat blower, which makes that room extra toasty. Man, I just love it.

Hope you all are enjoying your Friday and plotting fun adventures for your weekend.

  1. Your photos are beautiful, Jenny. Congratulations on your blog anniversary - you have been an inspiration to me and I am so glad we connected. I really love your rabbits! The black and white one is exactly the kind I would have if I had a rabbit, I've wanted one my whole life. I also enjoy your squirrel picture, what a beautiful little face he has.

    1. The black and white bunny is 'Alice' - she is very cute, but a little crabby.

Glad to have connected with you too Jennifer.

  2. Happy Almost Bloggiversary Jenny! I'm so glad you started blogging too.

Gorgeous photos from your yard and Opal and I are kindred spirits. :) Is she Opal from 'Win Dixie'? Your cozy space heater looks nice too... perfect for keeping your hands warm whilst you crochet! Enjoy those bits of green. No such thing here yet... but one day. :)

    1. She is Opal from Winn Dixie. Emma picked the name and I was pleased because I love that movie so much.

I can't believe you don't have a speck of green yet - I'll try to send a warm breeze your way.

  3. We have a lot in common, a love of blogging, photography (new passion with me too), poetry, dogs... We also have squirrels in the garden and spend a lot of time watching and feeding the wild birds. We have even bought an electric woodstove recently and like you I love it. Anyway, many congratulations on your first year in Blogland.

  6. Well happy one year anniversary to you! I'm certainly glad you stuck with it...otherwise I'd never have found you. What beautiful pictures. Yes, I remember the slow wake up of spring in the mountains. Sometimes it can be a cruel tease and then a pleasant delight! A fire of any kind is comforting in my book. (Okay..maybe not a forest fire...but the rest of them.)
    Glad you've got one!

  8. Happy blog birthday to you Jenny! I like your posts for your warmth and your wit, among other things. I like the glimpse into Montana you give us, a place so different to where I live, but so similar in many ways too.

I love your stove. Ever since I saw a little white electric stove in the baby room on Posie Gets Cozy I have wanted one. But then Alicia Paulson could probably put anything in her house and make it look perfect, she just has that knack.

  10. Happy Blogiversary, Jenny :-)

Your blog is a gift to me. I enjoy opening your posts and savoring your unique perspective on life.

The "fire" you sometimes see in photos in my posts of my rock fireplace is in fact a little electric stove I have tucked in there, powered through an extension cord. I am very grateful for its ambiance and warmth and am glad you are enjoying your stove as well. [after years of dragging 50lb. bags of coal to our wood furnace back in NY, I especially appreciate the remote control feature :-)]

    xx,
    Gracie

I'm just like Opal-I need to get out and get hopping!
Enjoy your Spring beginnings, we are still in Alaska where it is definitely still winter, last I checked it was 7 degrees this morning and snow/ice everywhere, at home our daffodils are blooming and the grass is green~oh well~
I love the little stove too, just right and not all that work of a wood stove.
